those deadly attacks on the u.s. consulate in libya. her defense failed to convince her republican critics. nbc's tracie potts is on capitol hill with more on this. tracie, good morning to you. >> lynn, good morning. rice admitted that when she said the ambassador and three others who were killed were the result of spontaneous attacks, the information was partially wrong. as she has done before, in a statement after her meeting, she blamed it on bad intelligence information, talking points where references to al queda had been taken out according to sources and attacked changes to demonstrations, despite the defense from the white house, despite her sitting down with republicans john mccain, kelly ayotte and senator lindsey graham, it looks like that meeting at least from her point of view was unsuccessful. here is what those republicans had to say after their meeting. >> we are significantly troubled by many of the answers that we got and some that we didn't get. concerning evidence that is overwhelming leading up to the attack on our consulate. >> clearly the impression that was

in cuts to domestic and defense spending. since the reagan era, most republicans have pledged not to raise taxes. but as nbc's mike viqueira reports, there are some signs of flexibility on both sides of the aisle. >> reporter: it's a pledge almost all republicans have signed, to oppose tax increases of any kind. that once solid wall was showing cracks. >>> the pledge you saw 18 years ago, 20 years ago was for that congress. the world has changed and the economic situation is different. >> reporter: but republicans insist in return for defying party doctrine, democrats must agree to changes in social security and medicare. >> i will violate the pledge, long story short, for the good of the country, only if democrats will do entitlement reform. >> reporter: activists on the left are lining up to oppose those reforms, but the president has put them on the table before. during last year's failed talks on a grand bargain and more recently in his first postelection press conference. >> we have to continue to take a serious look at how we reform our entitlements because health care costs continue

on the gaza side of the border. there were ten other teenagers with him who were injured. the israeli defense forces tell us that 300 palestinians sort of tested what they call the buffer zone today at the border between gaza and israel. this is a hundred-foot no-go zone that the idf has been enforcing. they did not, however, say they knew of any deaths. they said their forces shot in the air and when the palestinians did not move back, they then shot at their feet to get them to move back. it threatens this arguably fragile ceasefire that's been in place now for a little over a day. it's a ceasefire that on both sides has not instilled a lot of optimism. >> stephanie gosk in israel, thank you. >>> now for a look at the weather here is nbc meteorologist bill karins with the weather channel forecast. we had perfect weather for the macy's thanksgiving day parade. >> great show, yeah. >> you're saying it's all over. >> in many areas of the country. unfortunately in the northwest, people were in the rain waiting to get into those stores. it's moved through the olympics and now rolling through sea
